IELTS Preparation
IELTS! This is something that most English-language students have to tackle at some point in their lives, whether that be for a new English-speaking role abroad, a foreign university, or something else. While they can be stressful, we believe that exams can be a useful time for students and we therefore aim to create a happy and productive environment for learning and progress. You’ll have fun, even if it is preparing for an exam!
What should you expect?
-
Following on from an initial consultation pre-trial and during the trial, your teacher will work with you to come up with a strategy so that your priorities are identified and can shape the plan. Generally, all students will work on all four components of the exam, whether that be Academic IELTS or General Training, but more attention will be paid to the areas that need it most.
-
Exam skills, such as maintaining focus, managing time, and performing in stressful situations are worked on alongside your more specific IELTS work. This would involve lots of practice in situations with varying stress levels, breathwork, and strict mock exams. Our teachers are flexible and will adapt to whatever works best for you!
-
These classes can also be used for full writing and speaking mock exams, which you can supplement with reading and listening exams alongside them. This will be reviewed live by your teacher so you can understand what needs to be improved. Speaking exams are reviewed in-class, during and after the exercise, while writing exams are reviewed by your teacher after the class. These reviews allow you to understand what exactly needs to be improved.

Materials and Resources
-
A variety of IELTS resources are used from the British Council and other sources, as well as our own materials and mock questions.

-
For improving grammar, we generally use Lingolia and Perfect English Grammar with students as they have proven to be the most effective.

Assessment and Feedback
-
Feedback and assessment is essential when preparing for IELTS, as only then can you and your teacher regularly update your priorities and ensure efficient learning.

-
Feedback for comprehension (reading and listening) tasks is fairly straightforward: you will generally receive a grade for your work, and you and your teacher will work together to understand what needs to be improved, and how.

-
For writing, your teacher will correct your work and will, where appropriate, give you a grade as per the IELTS examination process. Speaking is similar, and is generally assessed through speaking mocks, which you’ll start doing early on.

Classroom Environment
-
Understanding that learning any language requires a lot of time, energy, and effort, we strive to create a learning environment that is conducive to both progress and enjoyment. We do this by getting to know our students and caring about them and their lives, asking good questions and sharing interesting stories. Reading our reviews is perhaps the best way to understand what we mean!
-
Our teachers are able, however, to manipulate the learning environment to target specific goals, and this is particularly relevant for IELTS. This will be done as exams approach so that you get used to performing under pressure.

-
Please think about what might be best for you, and speak to your teacher for ideas!

Your Teacher
-
Your teacher will be a TEFL-qualified, professional, friendly and caring individual who is invested in you and your progress and experienced in teaching IELTS. All of our teachers are native English-speakers and are learning or have learned a foreign language. This way, they understand your challenges and your journey!

-
We’re really proud of the quality of our teachers and the connections built in-class. This is a core part of our philosophy - that you feel cared for.
