Using information in your booking form, we will work together to find the best times for the two-hour weekly class and the additional one-hour community sessions. We expect there to be one morning/afternoon and one evening course. 2. This course is for learners over 18. Please don't book if you are under 18 when the course starts. 3. Once you have booked, if you refer another student to this course or another course, you will receive a £50 voucher for future courses with us. This acts as a thank you for spreading the word! The Environment group course has been designed to allow language learners of B2 (upper intermediate) or above interested in the environment, environmental policy, climate change, sustainability, and related topics to develop their English confidence and competency, such as written and verbal communication, comprehension, and grammar and vocabulary. Additionally, great focus is placed on a diverse range of skills outside of the traditional set of language goals. You will learn about interesting and engaging real-world concepts and problems, and, by the end of the course, be able to better communicate your ideas with others. The topics for this course are as follows (please note that you will have the opportunity to suggest different ideas for topics for the later stages of the course – we are always open to ideas!): Week 1: Climate Change Week 2: The Political Economy of Climate Change (Grammar Focus: Contrasting Ideas) Week 3: Water Pollution in the UK and Beyond Week 4: Conflict and Climate Change (Grammar Focus: Second, Third and Mixed Conditionals) Week 5: Environmental Responsibility and Climate Justice Week 6: Mitigation (Grammar Focus: Participle Clauses) Week 7: Adaptation: Urban Design, Architecture and the Environment Week 8: Food Systems and Circularity (Grammar Focus: Cleft Sentences, Inversion and Auxiliaries) Week 9: Climate Activism: Essential or Counterproductive? Week 10: System Change Regarding skills, this course targets a wide range of mostly academic and professional skills, including but not limited to: debating; analysing complex arguments; academic reading and listening; persuasive writing and speaking; group and dialogic listening and storytelling.
